Mythological Studies about Kāli Maa- Who is Kāli Maa & Why is Kāli Maa worshiped ?.
To start first – We worship “Kāli Maa – The Mother of all Creation , the protector of all innocent ” & ask her blessing to help us and give us the sense and knowledge to understand her all avatars (reincarnation’s) (similarities and differences) in all her avatars so that we should really know that how great our Maa (Mother) is, and to refine our understanding of her. We Know that great saints have said :-
“THEIR IS NO NEED TO UNDERSTAND A MOTHERHOOD OF A GODDESS , JUST HAVE TO BELIEVE IN IT, AND DIVINE MOTHER WILL COME TO YOU”
Photo Ref :- Photographic Reference :- Jai Kali Maa (Dakshineswar kali maa) Kali Maa we ask for forgiveness of our Sin’s
It must be clear that we believe in our mother but as this is a theological (holy) devoted work we aims to give a better understanding of our mother Kālika to the world (or the person who reads this).
Now our work sole purpose is to understand and explore some ancient meanings and ideology about Kāli Maa .
Well we know being only Simple Minded Humans one cant understand Kāli Maa but we still try to understand facts about her as per billions of years of historical mythological references and records.
IF YOU WANT TO REALLY UNDERSTAND WHO IS KALI MAA THEN BE WITH US AND WE MAY GIVE YOU, A GIMPS OF HER REALITY.
Our Research and Work here is trying to clear many facts and change them into understanding by knowing the source.
As myths always turns to misunderstanding and misunderstanding turns to disrespect and wrong explanation of her . So as said objective of our work we will also study methods of rituals like pooja and aradhana as per the old mythological mantrik references.
Our Work here gives sole emphasis on the available ancient religious texts which we think can provide evident explanation which can refine our understanding of mother Kāli. We hope that we can give a better meaning to our understanding of Mother Kālika. We will also deal with concepts given by various number of mythological references also We cannot explain all there is about her, as we are just using religious ancient texts (philosophical text are also researched ) and we lack the real adhatyam (spirituality) so we cannot describe in the best way and as there are many avatars (or reincarnation’s ) of Maa Kāli with different origin story , different iconography , different spiritual approach , we will try to account for all that .. but we are limited and bound by our resources and mental ability of understanding.
{PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL IMAGES USED ARE THE PROPERTY OF THEIR RESPECTIVE CREATORS AND THE IMAGES ARE “NOT” BEING USED FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES ” }
So we ask forgiveness from Maa Kali for any mistake we make in our devoted approach.

QUESTION :- WHY TO WORSHIP MAA KĀLI ? OR WHO IS KĀLI MAA ??..
Every Person defines her according to the basic understand he or she has of the mother . that definition is basically is a reflection of how he or she is introduced to Kāli Maa, here in our work we are not working on how any of you is introduced to mother Kāli … but here as told we are trying to introduce you (the reader) to who is Maa Kāli as per hindu mythology. It is really one of the most important questions as we are not referring to goddess Saraswati who is known as goddess of Knowledge & Sur or Goddess Lakshmi who is known as goddess of Wealth & Prosperity. …
So the first question- “Who is Kāli Maa ? & Why Hindus Worship Her ? or What does she represents ?”
The Answer is simple she is the mother of all creation, she has given us more than we could imagine, she is with us from the time of birth and even before when we are just a soul, a part of her , we cannot separate ourselves from her . she is our anchor in this world and even after our time comes she will still be always there with us. She is our mother and she deeply care’s for us more than we can possibly imagine . She is our protector. We are just a part of her.Worshiping her means worshiping Power Itself.. That’s why Maa Kāli is worshiped by billions of us Hindues in Past, in Present and she will be worshiped in future.
So Who, is Maa Kali ? Devi gives her own description in the Kalika Purana , where she says (Ref :- Kalika Puran quoted and translated in Text Ref. Revised magic of Kali _2007):-
“I am Great Nature, consciousness, bliss, the quintessence, devotedly praised.Where I am, there are no Brahma, Hara, Sambhu or other devas, nor is there creation, maintenance or dissolution. Where I am, there is no attachment, happiness, sadness, liberation, goodness, faith, atheism, guru or disciple.
“When I, desiring creation, cover myself with my “Maya” and become triple and ecstatic in my wanton love play, I am Vikarini, giving rise to the various things.“The five elements and the 108 lingams` arise, while Brahma and the other devas, the three worlds, Bhur-Bhuvah-Svah spontaneously come into manifestation. “By mutual differences of Shiva and Shakti, the (three) gunas originate. All things,
such as Brahma and so forth, are my parts, born from my being. Dividing and blending, the various tantras, mantras and kulas manifest.
After withdrawing the five fold universe,I, Lalita, become of the nature of nirvana. Once more, men, great nature, egoism, the
five elements, sattvas, rajas and tamas become manifested. This universe of parts appears and is then dissolved. “O All-Knowing One, if I am known, what need is there for revealed scriptures and
sadhana? If I am unknown, what use for pooja and revealed text? I am the essence of creation, manifested as woman, intoxicated with desire, in order to know you as guru, you with whom I am one. Even given this, Mahadeva, my true nature still remains
secret.”

Maa Kali :- The Mother of Creation
Great Saint Repeatedly Said –
” चमत्कार होते हुए देखाई नहीं देता हैं | चमत्कार होने के बाद देखेने की ज़रुरत ही नहीं रह जाती हैं |”
in English “One can not see the Miracle while it is happening. and after the miracle has happened their is nothing to see – only the Miracle remains ” .
Similarly Maa Kāli the creator of the universe, has created this miraculous Universe, and one of the greatest miracle is the Motherhood..The source of all our survival.
Maa Kāli is the source of all motherly love and Parental instincts , the feeling every mother has for her child , the sense of protection and care every parents have is a gift of her .. and because of this gift .. life exist on this earth and we know this like a crystal clear fact of all our lives.. .
Art description :- KALI MAA – ” The Source of all Mother Hood “
But still we are describing some points which may contradict common myths .. as a human nature it is common to create our own understanding based on appearance as people commonly get’s mistaken by the mystical appearance of Kāli Maa and this is nothing new even the late 70’s pre Independent Indian poet Kamalakanta who was a great devotee of Maa Kāli states in his poem ENTITLED IS “O KĀLI , MY MOTHER FULL OF BLISS” indicating that most people misunderstood Mother Kāli . He Stated :-
“But worthless Kamalakanta says, –
fondly berating Thee: –
(means “with affection approaching you (Maa Kāli) “)
Confoundress! With Thy flashing sword –
(means “mislead or confused by your flashing sword (which actually rise for protection or salvation but we are confused and we think it is for destruction)) “
Thoughtlessly Thou hast put to death –
these lines mean ” without understanding that you will end “
my virtue and my sin alike! –
meaning ” my earthly bonds and all my sins
(the poem is described in great possible length further )
It is really a common mistake done by many , to misunderstand Mother Kāli , if you dont know her and it is a common error from the time beyond..a simple funny example is in order to prove for example a child who dont understand, mathematics, fears the exam most.. similarly misunderstanding creates confusion and fear . Today just type the name goddess of destruction and you will see the image of Kāli Maa … that we are trying to resolve or explain.. so point wise we should explain why we worship Kāli Maa ..
Photographic Resource :- Showing Maa Kali, the Great Mother giving blessing to a new born .. Showing she is more than one would understand or describe
Kali Maa is a figure with a long and multi-layered history. Although she has been worshipped throughout South Asia, She has traditionally been most popular in the outlying regions of India, its “corners,” so to speak, away from the predominant mainstream culture:
Art Description :- Mahakali as the Source of All Motherhood and Ever fraction of This Worldly Maya and Moha ,
Kerala and much of the rest of the southern tip of the subcontinent, for example, or Bengal, Nepal and Assam in the extreme
northeast, and Kashmir and neighboring areas in the far northwest .
Digital Art Showing :- True Nature of Maa Kali who is just A Mother and nothing else but people who dont understand the cause of her rage misunderstands her , like when we were yound we all have misunderstood the cause of anger of our mother (just understand the cause of her rage and anger, you will see just a Mother Standing )
While stories about Her, rituals dedicated to Her, and ways of depicting Her vary from one region to the other, She is generally seen as a goddess who both “encompasses and transcends”
Here is an another beautiful tribute to her by her devotee named Kamalakanta which describes her nature in the hearts and minds of her devotees:
Is my black Mother Syama really black?
People say Kali is black,
but my heart doesn ‘t agree.
If She’s black,
how can She light up the world?
Sometimes my Mother is white,
sometimes yellow, blue, and red.
I cannot fathom Her.
My whole life has passed
trying.
She is Matter,
then Spirit,
then complete Void.
It’s easy to see
how Kamalakanta
thinking these things
went crazy. – – Kamalakanta Bhattacharya (1769-1821)
1.) KALI MAA IS “NOT” THE GODDESS OF DESTRUCTION OR CHAOS. :-
It is really a common idea that Mother Kali is the goddess of Ending or chaos commonly believed by misunderstanding her mystical appearances …But We believe CHAOS OR JUST DESTRUCTION is something of what Maa Kali can never stand for. It is always evident and we commonly know that Whenever Great Evil arises the Great mother Maa Kali took avatar to fight and Stop Evil.
Maa Kalika :- The Destroyer of Evil.
And we use common Phrase like ‘Destruction of evil’ instead of “Stopping evil” or “Saving innocent from Evil” or “Fighting Evil” or “Preserving innocent from Evil” but one may think that today we are more drown to “Destruction of Evil” thing than to “Preserving of innocent from Evil” it is human psychology these days . (their is lot of examples of this kind of liking present of deviant arts.com ..well it is a portal of artist but 98 % loves the idea of Destruction and they only see destruction and relates it with mother Kali …)
But we think whatever phrase we use, we must know and remember the fact that Maa Kali took avatars to save lives of all creation which includes protection of all life forms – humans, gods and daemons i.e all alike from the evil of the time which was harming and hurting every one .
It is a common misunderstanding that people see that avatars are only taken to end daemons but it is not like this avatars (or reincarnation ) is taken by the gods to end those who misuse their powers and abilities those who hurt innocent (biggest sin they committed was disrespecting a women) always meet their doom by the hands of gods .. their are several examples of this here for example –
Digital Collage Showing :- It is the Evil Deeds which results the punishment given by the gods.
“Shastrabahu”was a Kshatriya king who met his doom by the hands of Bhagwan (lord) Parshuram disrespected mother “Kamdhenu” and the mother of Lord Parshuram “Renuka”.
“Baali” the father of Angad and brother of Sugreev met his doom by the hands of Bhagwan Ram was a King of the Monkey Clan. Disrespected is own brothers wife “Rumaa”
“Ravan” The great King of Lanka also died by the hands of Lord Ram was a Brahman . disrespected “Mother Sita” The wife of lord Ram.
“Kansa“ The Maternal Uncle of Bhagwan Krishna met his doom by the hands of his own nephew – Bhagwan Krishna . Here this example is really interesting as you see here that Kansa was a relative of Lord Krishna but he still met his doom by the hands of Bhagwan Krishna because of his evil deeds and Kans was a Yadavaby clan . His fear of his own death lead to disrespecting his own sister “Devaki” by imprisoning her and her husband “Vasudeva” who is the parents of lord Krishna.
It is really important to note that all of these were powerful and knowledgeable kings but they did a great mistake and that was using their ability and power to “disrespect a women”. Disrespecting women is the biggest Sin done in the eyes of gods and that’s why these great and powerful rulers payed the price by the lives of their and their loved ones even with the lives of their entire kingdom.
Art description:- Prahlad (who belong to demon family his father was Hiranyakashipu, a demon) & Lord Narsingh (lord Vishnu)
Some contradicting examples also exist in Hindu mythology Like Bhakt “Prahlad” and his Grand-Son “Bali” .. both received the grace of Bhagwan Vishnu even though they were Asur by birth..
So it is a myth that avatars are only taken to end demons..but it is not the case .. any avatar was taken for the benefit of all life forms .
This has also been stated in various purans like for example it is said in kalika puran section “भगवन शिव का हिमवान में निवास ” (Bhagwan Shiva ka himwaan ma niwas ” while describing a demon named “Tarak” it is repeatedly said that the demon “Taraka Sur “and his army general “Kautrach” also harm innocent civilians of “PATAAL “- the land of the asurs (demons)., So they were evil to all. (image below from the stated section of kalika puran)
Ref Kalika Puran (Hindi edition):- “Shiva Ka Himwaan Ma Niwas”
this is not said once but multiple times like during the discussions of “Lord Indra” and “Kamdeva” .. where Lord Indra is asking Kamdeva to help him for the benefit and good of human , gods , saints and daemons also ..(image below from the stated section of kalika puran the work have been cross checked with the Sanskrit version)
Ref ; Kalika Puran (Hindi edition) Section “Shiva Ka Himwaan Ma Niwas”
So it is always thought of the good of all innocent life forms not just only good of gods..and in this context any one innocent, is under the protection of Mother Kali …She protects all life forms.
Digital Art Description :- Maa Kali – The Mother Guardian of All Creation.
In a manner if we believe the ancient mythological writings then it will be evident that all life present today is just possible because Kali Maa is protecting us and had saved us and all life, from the evil which was far too powerful for normal life forms like us.
Digital Art – Of Maa Kali , The Protector of Innocents
We should understand gods don’t enter into ”Avatars“ unless it is highly necessary for the stability of all creation.
– So, Maa Kali Is the protector of innocent , and protects all life forms that’s why she took avatar i.e to protect innocents and thats why she is worshiped by billions of people, (even gods and demons ) and worshiped by generations as their Kuldevi ( The Goddess who protects the Entire Generation of a family) ..
– It is to note that She is “NOT” Just a slayer of Demons and Asur. This is a “MYTH”, The fact is her sword always rise to protect innocent who ever they may be and she never spare any evil doer who ever he may be..
Digital painting ;- Jai Maa Kali – The Protector of All Life.
2.) KALI MAA IS THE MOTHER OF UNIVERSE & CREATION. :-
Well in Hindu mythological shastra and Tantra shastra which are the base of most of Hindu rituals and philosophy’s their is belief that Mother Kali as “Mahakali” is the Mother of Entire Creation .The exact reference will be “Kalika Puran” and “Yogani Tantra”. Here Mother Kali (as MahaKali) is seen as the Creator & Mother of Universe and, they state this by saying :-
“काली च जगतां माता सर्व शास्त्रशु निश्रित “
in English “kali cha jagatam mata sarva shastrashu nishita” (ref from the respected mythological resource Named Yogani Tantra Ch 2 Shlok 7 -image below )
meaning “Kali maa is the mother of entire creation and this has been repeatedly stated in many Shastra…” – Statement Given by Bhagwan (Lord) Shiva himself..
Ref – Yogani tantra Ch – 2 – “Kali Maa is the mother of creation” statement given by lord Shiva Himself to Mother Parvati.
Similarly Kalika Puran Says –“When the Eternal Ending comes and the Sky will Also End Then also Kali Maa will Exist as the Supreme Force “(Ref 1.from kalika puran, point 6, Section – Kali ji ki mahima).”(image below)
Ref Kalika Puran (Hindi edition) Section – Kali Ki Mahima
To clearly understand this concept of why she is the center of all creation and destruction we must have a clear idea of how we see goddess or gods in Hinduism ;
Digital Art :- Describing the Concept of Mother Kali as the Source of all Starting and All Ending as Described in a 7th TO 11th BCE text , Shree Kalika Puran (reference page cited just above)
In Hinduism their are four forms of gods
) The NIRGUNA NIRAKAR FORM– “nirgun” means which exist but without any characteristics and “Nirakar” means who who is devoid of Shape. This is the form in which we see the eternal goddess, who exist in this form as the eternal Cosmic Dark Void . She is mother Mahakali as the eternal cosmos.
) The SAGUN SAKAR FORM – which means that god exist in all forms of matter and energy i,e which originated from the dark cosmos.. This is the source of creation, when mother Mahakali wished to create the universe and the three gods she took a form.
) The Third is THE DEVATA FORM- this is the form in which we see the Primary Gods – i.e Lord Shiva , Lord Vishnu & Lord Brahma who started acting on a role of creator , protector and destroyer as per the wish of Mahakali.
) The Fourth form THE LILA DHAR FORM – this is the form in which we know most of the god’s or goddesses like Lord Ram , Lord Krishna or Mother Sita or Mother Rukamani, Mother Tulsi . ect who came face to face with the human’s and taught how we should live as humans and what is right and what is wrong . (and as a matter of fact of difference between the Devata Form and the Lila Dhar Form ,only the gods and goddesses from the Devata Form is who took part in yagya pooja . they are offered the part of Yagya Pooja and not the Devata From the Lila Dhar Form because the Lila-Dhar Form are the avatars of The Devata Form )
To restate and understand this think of her as the Calm Peaceful Eternal Dark Void from which the universe born and this brings us to the fact that, she will remain present even after the end of all creation ”, Maa Kali (as Mahakali) is untouched by the processes of creation and destruction being the supreme being but she cares every small thing. she is the center of creation and ending, every thing starts from her and ends in her …
Digital Painting Showing :- Kali Maa is the Start and End of Every Thing
.The above painting shows the idea that every thing starts every thing starts from her and end in her . Every aspects of us shares this feature like
The Fireof yagya or havan which denotes beginning and fire of the cremation ground which denotes ending . fire is the same . and it is present in every starting and in every ending .
The Water . when it is flowing from a upright vessel it is worshiping gods , navagrah or panch bhoot but when it is flowing in reverse from a broken pot, it means worshiping the ending of the soul . water is the same and it is present at the starting and at the ending ..
The Earth .. it offers us the place to live , it offers us food and at the end it offers us a place to die … Earth is the Same and it is also present at the beginning and also at the ending .
The Sky .. It offers us Rain and Sun .. it offers us Day but it also offers us Storm , Drought and Night .. Sky is the same ..present at the beginning and at the ending ..
The Air … the wing which becomes the main need of our body to live is also present at the end of our lives when it promotes the fire to carry our essence back to the mother of creation – Maa Kalika.
Digital art showing :- Maa Kali , who is the Mother of All Creation, sitting on a lotus flower (which represents knowledge) at the source of tree of life , above the sea of Life , present at the source of infinite cycle of creation and devolution.
– So, Maa Kali Is the Creator of the Universe and every aspect of nature is just a characteristics of her. This is the other reason why she is been worshiped for so many ages . People worshiped her for protection and then they worship her for salvation..
– It is to note that She is “NOT” a Goddess of Ending and just destruction. This is just a “MYTH” … an incomplete conclusion drawn may be, by those who have no understanding of concept of life and death or are misguided by her appearances or lacked the true understanding of Mother Goddess. She just has a Misunderstood Appearance.
Digital Art :- Of Mother Goddess KaliDigital Art :- Jai Maa Kalika (The Mother of All Creation)
3.) KALI MAA IS THE GODDESS OF ALL KINDS OF KNOWLEDGE: –
Kali Maa has captured the imagination of the West because of her gruesome appearance and the rites associated with her. But rather than reviled, she is revered by countless millions of people. Shri Ramakrishna, and his Student Sri Swami Vivekananda were the famous Indian sage and saint, and people like Sir Rabindranath Tagore and many more are her devotees who all are the People of words and knowledge . Nevertheless, traces of her worship are found throughout India and former territories of India. and mostly it is clearly seen and her devotees are mostly were “People of Knowledge , and By knowledge they acquired Power and Fame ”
Well some of us will think here as how this is possible but it is true .. Consider some thing from “yogani tantra & kalika puran ” we believe Mata (mother) Kali is the Creator of the entire universe then it is understandable that she is the creator of all knowledge as well this, this is one of the reason why people worshiped her and if we believe in mythological and tantrik evidence, the same has been clearly stated in repeated manner. ..
for example from the above reference of Kalika puran Section “Kali Ki mahima“Point 5 and point 10 that she is the “ANADI & ADI VIDYA” (meaning the finite and infinite knowledge Point 5 (image above))
and point 10 of the same reference says that Maa Kali can give any kind of grace any kind of knowledge one is seeking. And in the same section last point it is clearly stated that anyone who wants any kind of achievements can worship Maa Kali to achieve his goal and has to accept her in that form.

MAA KALIKA – THE MOTHER GODDESS OF ALPHABETS
Kali Wears Garlands of 51 Cosmic Heads each representing 51 letters of Sanskrit Alphabets
It is Also To Be noted that tantrik literature like Kalika tantra ect have described that the whole material universe is but an expression of certain primordial sounds or vibrations. These are expressed by the consonants and vowels of the Sanskrit alphabet, combined together in different ways.
1.) ” Bija Mantras” (or Seed-syllables),are short combinations. (Their are 7-Bija Mantras of Maa Kali which are – Kreem (क्री), Hreem (ह्री), Hoom (हू ), Shree (श्री ), Dakshina (दक्षिणा ), Namha (नम:) & Om (ॐ ). these 7 Bija Mantras give rise to 7- Dhayans or Mantra Orders )
2.) “Dhayans” (Spells),are long combinations of differing measures, and are the very “fabric” from which this universe is formed. (the 7 Dhyan Mantra Orders are Kaadi (कादि ) , Haadi (हादि) , Krodhadhi (क्रोधादि), Vagaadi (वागादि), Naadi (नादि), Daadi (दादि)& Pranvaadi (प्रणवादि). On the basis of these dhyana orders, the iconography of maa Kali varies slightly )
According to an inner explanation given in many Indian Tantra-Śāstra (for ref example, in an explanation of Kali tantra by Rajesh dixit it is been told that Maa Kali wears garland of 50 heads and as she is the “ULTIMATE BRAMH” and She creates new creations from the blood of the heads , present in her neck garland)
This string of heads is the Garland of Letters (Varṇ amālā), that is the fifty, and as some count it, fifty-one letters, of the Sanskrit Alphabet
These letters represent the universe of names and forms (Nāma-rūpa) that is Speech (Śabda) and its meaning or object (Artha).
She (Maa Kali) wears the Letters which, She, as the Dissolving Power, takes to Herself again.
Page reference Snapshot :- from Book “Garland of Letters” by Sir John WoodroffeAs per Sir John Woodroffe also known by his pseudonym Arthur Avalon, was a British Orientalist whose extensive and complex published works on the Tantras, and other Hindu traditions, stimulated a wide-ranging interest in Hindu philosophy and yoga. described :-
Photograph :- Sir John Woodroffe (Arthur Avalon),1928
The garland of 51 Head or “The Cosmic Mind (as described above) is at first itself both cognising subject (Grāhaka) and cognised object (Grāhya); for it has not yet projected its thought into the plane of Matter: the mind as subject-cogniser is Śabda and the mind as the object cognised, that is the mind in the form of object is subtle Artha. This Śabda called Madhyamā-Śabda is an “Inner Naming” or “Hidden Speech.”
There is at this stage a differentiation of Consciousness into subject and object but the latter is now within and forms part of the self. This is the state of Cosmic Dreaming (Svapna).
The Cosmic Mind then projects these mental images on to the material plane and there they become materialized as gross physical objects (Sthūla Artha) which make impressions from without on the mind of the created consciousness. This is the cosmic waking stage (Jagrat).
At this last stage the thought movement expresses itself through the vocal organs in contact with the air as uttered speech (Vaikhari-Śabda) made up of letters, syllables and sentences. This lettered sound is manifested Śabda or Name (Nāma) and the physical objects denoted by speech are the gross Artha or Form (Rūpa).
Of these letters and names and their meaning or objects, that is concepts and concepts objectified the whole Universe is composed.”
IT is to be noted here that In Tantrik Ideology She is the Goddess of Knowledge ,not of War . She is the Only Goddess who is clearly associated with alphabets of Sanskrit language . No other God or Goddess is associated with any language in this regards. and also to be noted that , Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa , his Wife Sarada Devi , his student Swami Vivekananda , than ,Kalidasa, Kamalakanta Bhattacharya , Ramprasad Sen , ect and many More All Were Writers by Mind ,Not Fighters by Sword .
We find people always referring one deity with the story they have and trying to understand everything about a god or goddesses by a single word. we think it is wrong, how can a single word or a story define all aspects of the mother of all creation. For example, people normally relate Maa Kali with war and fierce rage. for them We would like to share one other story of-
“KALI MAA & KALIDAS” –
The goddess of knowledge & The Shakespeare of Ancient India
There was a great, great, great poet of ancient India named Kalidasa. In Indian literature, Kalidasa is definitely an immortal figure. He wrote his plays and poems in Sanskrit. His most beloved epic poem is MeghaDutam, the cloud-messenger. Kalidasa lived during the reign of a good, kind, benevolent and powerful king named Vikramaditya (who was also considered a a devotee of Mother Harsiddhi ) .
Kali Maa & Kalidas (Digital Art)
The importance fact we want to share is how Kalidas got his knowledge, it is respectfully said that Kalidas was graced by Maa Kali herself by her trident.
Kalidas was a devotee of Maa kali . He used to worship her night and day and prayed her after he was so frustrated because of his lack of knowledge . It is said that his prayers got answered, that’s what happen when someone whole hardheartedly worship’s Maa Kali . Maa Kalika was pleased of his devotion to her and she awarded him the gift of knowledge along with the gift of bright future. That’s how he became a legend of Indian literature, The Shakespeare of Indian Literature .It is also said that since then that Kalidas was not a single person but many different persons all with the same level of knowledge and all blessed by mother Kali that’s why they were called “Kalidas” meaning – the devotee of Kali Maa. However one this is sure and that i is Mahakavi Kalidasa wrote a famous tantrik text on Maa Kali which is known as ” Chidgagana Chandrika ” , a wonderful work of 312 couplets, is a mantra “sastra rupa kavya” that extols Goddess Kali of Kali Krama.
The 12 th sloka of Chidgagana Chandrika expounds the Kailasa Tattva
as:
yah kilAsa sa kilAsa Ishwarah khyAtasatvalulitordhvamurdhani
pratyaham janani yatra tiShTati tvam sa satvavapuradrirasya yah //
Meaning :- The principle that ever exists without begin & end is ” kilasa ” . When the principle becomes Ishwara alongwith The Sakti, the Sakti shines with Shuddha Sattva. Such a Sakti that has Shuddha Sattva Guna is also called ” kilasa ” . The Sakti which is ” kilasa-rupini ” is ” Kailasa ” . Ishwara sports on the ” Urdhwa-shikhara ” of ” Kailasa ” . O Mother! Thou art that ” Kailasa-rupini ” .
Thou the explanation is self-explanatory, there is an esoteric mantra sastra encoded by Shri Kalidasa with the term ” kailasa ” .
The Shuddha Satva Guna is represented by White Colour and hence Kailasa is white & silvery.
The word ” urdhwa-murdhani ” indicates that Ishwara sports at Sahasrara Chakra which is beyond shad-adhvas (varna, pada, kala, tattva, bhuvana, tattva, mantra that represent muladhara, svadhistava, manipura, anahata, vishuddhi, ajna respectively).
The ” satva-vapu ” is also taken as ” tattva-vapu ” which implies that of the form having tattva (ie., 36 tattva starting from Siva to Prithivi).
So, Kailasa Tattva represents the entire Cosmos starting from Siva to Prithivi on which shines the Transcendental State which is Eternal Principle.

Photograph of Gadh -Kalika temple of Ujjain where the Mother Of Knowledge, Mother Kali is present who bestowed her blessings on Kalidas and made him the greatest dramatist of India & sculpture of Kalidas.
So by this story and the story of the famous temple of GadhKalika Mother Kali is also the goddess of knowledge.
Hence what Kalika Puran Statement about Maa Kali is correct She is the Source of all finite and infinite Knowledge i.e every kind of knowledge whether it would be creative forms like Art, Literature, Music or Science or some other kind of knowledge like War, Weapons and elements of destruction … She is the Goddess of Knowledge .She can give you any kind of knowledge. It is you who have to decide which knowledge you seek.
– It is likely to be simple, Maa Kali Is the Creator of the Universe so is also the primary source of all the knowledge of this universe . This is the other reason why she is been worshiped by so many scholars like Swami Vivekananda & more ,,
– It is to note this is a MYTH” that Mother Kali is the goddess of war .. frankly it is amazing that people cant see that she is always requested when things got out of hands. She protected all life forms.
Well their are many avatars of her but all are seen as a goddess of knowledge (like in various tantra she is always worshiped as a supreme being of knowledge and “Mahakaal samhita” also see her as a goddess of various siddhi ..
Digital Art Showing :- Kali Maa , the Mother of all creation who is the source of all kind of Power’s of the Universe.
4.) KALI MAA IS WORSHIPED, AS THE MOTHER OF “MARTIAL ARTS” : –
WELL IN THE ABOVE POINT WE HAVE DISCUSSED THAT MOTHER KALI IS A GODDESSES OF ALL KIND OF KNOWLEDGE .. WELL THIS POINT IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE AND AN IMPORTANT ONE AT THAT .
THIS POINT TELLS US THAT :-
“MOTHER KALI TEACHES US TO FIGHT FOR OURSELVES & TO BE STRONG FROM INSIDE “
martial arts is an ancient form of arts created to protect yourself by techniques and also to remain healthy, plus the yoga philosophy and science also tells us how to be healthy at your mind . Well this fact is known by few people but it is not a surprise that Mother Kali is worshiped as a goddess of both- the yogic philosophy and martial arts.
“CAUSE OF THE WORSHIP” :- Kalarivathukkal Bhagavathy Temple, located near Valapattanam River, is the family temple of Chirakkal Royal Family in Kannur. Dedicated to Mother Kali (or more specifically Maa Bhadra Kali), the deity here is considered as the mother of the ancient martial art of Kerala, Kalaripayattu. The temple mainly celebrates two annual festivals, one is the Pooram Mahotsavam and the other is Kalaasholsavam (Thirumudi Utsavam).
people came here to learn about Kalaripayattu like ancient form of martial arts .

These summer camps range from two to three weeks during the summer holidays to encourage the budding enthusiasts to learn the ropes of Kalaripayattu (ref- http://www.kalaripayattu.org/)Jasmine Simhalanperforming steps and postures of Kalaripayattu
About “Kalaripayattu” –
The Orient’s treasure trove, a blessing of Kali Maa to the modern world Kalaripayattu is seen as the mother of all martial arts . Legend traces the 3000 or more-year’s-old art form originally taught by Sage “Parasurama”- the master of all martial art forms and credited to be the re-claimer of Kerala from the Arabian Sea and here Mother Kali is worshiped as the Goddess of Martial Arts.
Kalaripayattu originated in ancient South India. Kung- fu, popularized by the monks of the Shoaling Temple traces its ancestry to Bodhi Dharma – an Indian Buddhist monk and Kalaripayattu master.
Crafted in ancient South India drawing inspiration from the raw power and sinuous strength of the majestic animal forms – Lion, Tiger, Elephant, Wild Boar, Snake, and Crocodile …….. Kalaripayattu laid down the combat code of the Cholas, the Cheras and the Pandyas. Shrouded in deep mystery and mists of secrecy Kalaripayattu was taught by the masters in total isolation, away from prying eyes. Following the collapse of the princely states and the advent of free India – Kalaripayattu has now lost its significance as a mortal combat code. But in a Phoenix-like resurrection, Kalaripayattu is today emerging in a new avatar – an ancient art form – a source of inspiration for self-expression in dance forms – both traditional and contemporary, in theater, in fitness and in movies too (ref :- http://www.kalaripayattu.org/)

So this prove’s our original point of her being the goddess of knowledge – the best reason to worship her like the people of Kerala.
5.) MAA KALI IS WORSHIED AS A PROTECTRESS FORM EPIDEMIC , NATURAL DISASTER’S & MISFORTUNE: –
“CAUSE OF THE WORSHIP” :- Maa Kali is Worshiped by people of India (specifically in parts West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand & Odisha) as a Goddess who is worshiped as a Great Mother and protectress in times of epidemic, famine, earthquake, drought, flood and even Misfortune.
Art Description:- Maa Kali Who is seen as The Great protectress in times of epidemic
In Bengal a 200 Years Old tradition exists in which on the day of Buddh-paurnima in the month of May , when full Moon Is in the sky , in the dead of night , Maa Kali is Worshiped , and as per the religious tradition people do “Vrat” and then the pooja is done . for this pooja in many villages a Special Idol Of Maa Kali is Installed which is Been painted on the same day of the pooja . The Colour of the Idol of Maa Kali is Always Blue and is covered with decorative “Dakershaj” made from Shola (a reed, Aeschymene Aspera found on the marshy lands of Eastern India) . Red Flower (Hibiscus) is considered as appropriate for the worship . The Idol of Maa Kali is Covered and Decorated with Chand-Mala or Moon Garlands, Made of Shola, which are circular shaped.

Maa Kali Is a Great Mother Goddess and people of India worship her as their protector from epidemic.
6.) MAA KALI IS THE PROTECTOR OF INNOCENT : –
“CAUSE OF THE WORSHIP” :- Maa Kali is seen and worshiped as a great protector of innocent by people of India .. It is amazing that people dont know that she is the “Kul-devi” of many villages in northern Uttar pradesh where she is worshiped in a form of Black elephant statue mostly or sometimes seen riding a Black elephant .
Photograph Description :- Kali Maa Seen riding a Black elephant , and Worshiped as a Great Protector of the Village Mahadewa from District- Sant Kabir Nagar , Uttar pradesh
People see her as a great protector and even a new couple should come here and take the blessing of mother Kali before starting a new life . She is basically worshiped as a protector to these people.
Photograph Description :- Kali Maa is worshiped as “Kul devi” in the form of Black elephant in Parts of Northern Uttar Pradesh, India . Here she is worshiped as a great protector of village and their crops.
She has been always seen as a protector by the people of India and to those who truly understands her. It is stated above in the above “point 1″ it is largely seen that Maa Kali always took avatar to end daemons who are harming her innocent children that’s what the great battle of Maa Durga and Maa Kali with the demons like Raktbeej , Chand- Mund , and Shumbh Nishumbh tells us (here she is been given the name Raktbeej Darpani, Maa Chamundaya ect ) and their is also mythological references where Maa Kali came to save a common innocent soul from coming to harm similarly to the above event where she came to help a common soul of Kalidas and blessed him with the gift of knowledge ..
This time we see Maa Kali grace described by the reference – “BHAGWAT PURAN, Chapter 5, Section 9 Entitled –BHARAT JI KA BRAHMIN KUL MA JANMA” (Hindi Edition) (Image attached below)
“KALI MAA & THE BRAHMAN BOY NAMED -BHARAT “
Bharata, is one of the great characters of the Bhagavata, so great that India is called “Bharatavarsha” after him, and continues today as “Bharat”one of the official names of India as recorded in the Indian Constitution till now .
Bharata was a great king, descended from “Priyavrata” the son of “Svayambhuva” . It is said that great king Bharat was really attached to a deer. Because of this his second birth was of a deer. And his third rebirth as of a Brahman Boy.
Even at an early age he drifted into ascetic ways, completely untouched by the strenuous effort of his father to instruct and train him in the Vedic tradition. After his parents died, his brothers neglected or ignored him completely. So he left the home and wandered away from home and it appeared that he was being looked after by the Lord, on whom his mind was wholly centered.
“One day while he was wandering about, he was observed by a band of thieves who were looking for a suitable human for a sacrifice for the purpose that their leader could have a child and hence they were told to sacrifice a person to Goddess “Bhadrakali”. And so they captured innocent Bharata. Soon they made all preparations for the sacrifice. Finally at the last moment when the thieves was about to strike the fatal blow on Bharat Maa Kali Herself burst out of the statue that was being worshiped, and destroyed all the thieves by cutting their heads off in a single swift blow and saved Bharata. So she saved the Brahmin and destroyed all the Evil Bandits in a single instant . later she blessed the Brahmin boy and disappeared.”
Art and Ref Description :- Mother Kali Protected “Bharat” (ref – Bhagwat Puran , Pancham skand (5th section), Nava adhaya (ch-5) entitled “Bharat Ji Ka Brahman Kul Ma Janma”
Hence the documented event Clearly says that “Maa Kali will always protect every innocent and simple devotee of hers even from the greatest Evil “ ; she is the preserver of innocent . The story clearly tells one simple thing that “who ever does evil or wrong in her name or is responsible of hurting or troubling her devotee will be punished by the hands of Maa Kali.
Art Describing :- Maa Kali and Brahman Bharat .
They will not be spared and that is their last mistake. She Never says to hurt someone in her name” . she will give you what ever you want in a correct way, you just have to ask her. Those people who do wrong in her name, like the bandits here are just a disrespect to her and She is never known to show mercy to evil.
in some third person references their is a description error while describing this incident there are writings which says that “the Brahmin burned the statue as he got close” , but this is definitely wrong, the event is misunderstood. Maa Kali herself came out of the statue in protection of Bharat. It is written in bhagwat puran chapter 5 section 9 (the image attached above) that it is the “तेज” (Taej) (spiritual light) of the Brahman” not the Fire because of which Mother Kali came their to help him. This is what The above Reference “Bhagwat Puran Chapter 5 section 9 ” clearly states.
People of India has worshiped her for seeing her as a mother who is the protector of
Photograph Description :- Bhadra kali maa – the great protector of Chittorgarh (statue of 14th Century)
innocent and similar to the parts of Uttar pradesh we can see the example of this all over India . one of the most popular of West India , Region is Chittorgarh from Rajasthan presents a fine example of this . Here the temple of mother Kali was constructed by a king of “Shyshodia dynasty” . His name was King Bappa Rawal but it is said that King Maharana Hamir Singh established the pratima of mother Bhadrakali in 14th century.
“CAUSE OF THE WORSHIP” :-
Here it is firmly believed that “MOTHER BHADRAKALI IS THE PROTECTOR OF CHITTORGARH”
***The Similar story is of Ahmedabad, Gujarat where their is an another temple of Mother Kali and here also people worship her as the great protector of Ahmedabad ..
Maa Bhadrakali Mandir is oldest temple, when the name of Ahmedabad used to be Karnavati. At that time, temple was situated on current Manek Chowk. Due to the destructive activities of the people, the temple was badly damaged. Ahmad Shah settled Ahmedabad in the 14th century, he establishing temple according to the wishes of his raja purohit. Even today, this temple is under the supervision of the descendants of those priests.
Photos of Mother Bhadrakali from Ahmedabad, Gujrat Kali Temple
NOW THE CAUSE OF THE WORSHIP :– Everyone in Ahmedabad should worship or dhyan to goddess, because Maa Kali is the “Nagar-Devi” of this city. The main attraction of the temple is the daily riders changes of Maa Kali, like lions, elephants, Nandi, lotus. “The business community of the city introduces its new work by offering lotus flowers in Her feet.”
*** Our Current Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Bhai Modi came to visit the temple every year on the occasion of New Year.
The temple organizes two times Annakut in a year. Bhandara is organized after Shardiya and Chaitra Navratri. Devi Bhagwat is organized in the last week of January. Mai bhog prasad is distributed on every Sunday

Mother Kali has always been a divine mother of protection.
If we look at vedic reference like in Durga Shapshati while describing a powerful famous mantra kavach called “Devi Kavacham”It is requested to Devi Chamunda to protect us from all ten sides (image below) and further in ch 4 section 7 entitled “chand munda vadh” Devi Chamunda is an another name of Mother Kali (she who appeared from the head of mother durga forehead or eye brows is called as “Pauranik Kali” as per kalika puran). A name given by Mother Durga Herself ..
So billions of years old history and the billions of years of faith thinks of her as just a greatest protector which most of the goddess can not do so as is Devi Kavacham many goddess like “Mother Kaumari”, “Mother Vashnavi”,”Mother Jaya & Vijya”, “Mother Aparajita”, “Mother Yashashwani devi” and many more goddess are requested to protect us but only Devi Chandika/ Kali can protect us from from all ten sides.
Ref – kalika puran – the above image tells us the only devi chamunda is requested to protect us from all sides . and the lower verse states that Devi Chamunda is the other name given to Mother (Pauranik) Kali by Mother Durga.
-So, Maa Kali Is the Protector of every innocent soul ..and as per “Bhagwat Puran” it doesn’t need a demon to enrage her . A Single cry of a innocent person is heard by her and the evil causing the pain is ended by my Mother Kali …
– It is to note that people think harming a innocent in her name will please her. we find people doing cruelty in her name (like these thieves described in Bhagwat puran).. those person doesn’t know what Maa Kali really wants and those people are just a disrespect to her and it is sure that those will meet their doom by the hands of her .. Nothing can save them.
7.) KALI MAA IS GODDESS OF WARRIOR KINGS: –
“CAUSE OF THE WORSHIP” :- It is really crystal clear the Worshiping Maa Kali Means Worshiping Power Itself and all the above example’s also showed that kings of different times and powerful and influential people of different times worshiped her and have great faith in her . The biggest duty of kings is to protect their people, protect who is weak . Maa Kali is primarily worshiped for the same reason .. She is been worshiped by warriors who fought to uphold truth, justice and protect the innocent .
Photographic resource :- Maa Kali And Guru Hargobind Singh
Now the Above Photographic resource is a Great Evidence supporting of the concept that “Kings and Warriors from different Times have asked her (Maa Kalika ) Blessings to save their citizens from Evil Tyrants” .
Here we See that the 6th Sikh Guru , Sri Guru Hargobind ji Who fought against the tyrant Mugals also needed help of Maa Kali to win wars against Mugals. where we can clearly see the Engraving of Maa Kalika (or Chandika) present on his Sword embraced like a blessing.
Digital painting:- showing Kali maa being worshiped by a warrior who is presenting his sword to her, to seek her blessing
8.) KALI MAA IS SYMBOL OF MOTHERHOOD : –
Digital Art Reference :- Maa Muktakeshi Trinetra Kali
We can all ask a question to our self that IF MOTHER KALI IS A DESTRUCTIVE GODDESS WHO JUST END THINGS THEN WHY DID SHE CAME TO SAVE SIMPLE BEINGS LIKE “BHARAT OR KALIDAS” THEIR SHE IS NOT A DESTRUCTIVE GODDESS, SHE IS A MOTHER WHO PROTECTS AND HELPS HER CHILDREN , WE BELIEVE THIS IS HER REAL NATURE AND EVEN THE GODS KNOW THIS. SHE IS AN ALL KNOWING & ALL SEEING MOTHER AND THE PURANS WHICH HAVE DESCRIBED HER TREMENDOUS RAGE HAVE ALSO SHOWN THE CLEAR CONCEPT OF HER MOTHERHOOD NATURE.
To explain this fact we are describing and event from “Reference – LING PURAN Section – Shiva Tandava Vernan” (Art and reference image below)
The Ling Purans states about a demon Named “Daruk”. When gods asked help from Bhagwan Shiva , Shiva requested Maa Parvati to end that demon.
So a “Divine Ansh (part) ” of Maa Parvati entered in Shiva and got its form from the “Karal Vish” (the poison which emerged from “Samudra Manthan” drinking which Shiva became “NeelKanth Mahadeva”) present in Bhagwan Shiva’s Throat. Knowing this, that form emerged out from the “THIRD EYE of Bhagwan Shiva” and she was called “Kali” (and later Yogani) AND BY THE ORDERS OF MAA PARVATI, MAA KALI ENDED DEMON –DARUK.
It is here that the puran tells that she was so angry on the demon that gods felt that even now the demon is dead but Kali Maa is not calming down , if this continues then the whole world will be burned in the fire of her rage .So they requested Lord Shiva to calm down Mother Kali .
Shiva knew that the fear of gods is misplaced that’s why the god who is called as Mahakala , Maha Rudra , Took a Avatar of an “Infant child” and lied in the “shamshan” and started crying . ( IT IS TO NOTE THAT LORD SHIVA COULD CHOSE ANY FORM BUT INSTEAD HE CHOOSES TO BE A CHILD, IT IS JUST TO SHOW THE REAL NATURE OF MOTHER KALI . )
As Soon as Maa Kali heard the cry of a baby she immediately stopped searching for daemons and started looking for the crying baby. She found the baby and then took the child in her own hand and nurtured the child out of motherly love.
Digital Art Ref :- Ling puran Where Maa Kali Showed that Motherhood is her primary nature , not rage
This section of ling puran (dedicated to Bhagwan Shiva) also holds importance for shiva did the famous Nataraj dance. IN Here “Ling puran Section “Shiva Tandava Vernan” this Kali avatar was further named as “Yogani” by the gods after they worshiped her and Maa Parvati..
Ref :- Ling Puran Section “Shiva Tandava Vernan” (Hindi Edition) describing the rage of mother kali was calm down by a crying baby . a form which lord shiva – the mahakaal or the maharudra chose to take.
The respected mythological reference clearly gives the description that “Maa Kali ” the mother ;Even her rage was feared by all but “She is just a mother” we know we can see Puran stating that the word feared and felt the fire of her rage but puran also describes that she was easily cooled down by a crying baby apart from the fact that the puran is devoted to lord shiva but one would agree that She (trinetri kali maa) felt and cared more about a crying helpless baby than about the rage and destruction of daemons. (the detailed description of the iconography and other facts about this avatar will be also explained later in great detail in the web page in the other tab)
in Yogani Tantra, “Mata (Maha) Kali “ is been described as the mother of all three gods , Brahma , Vishnu And Shiva.
-So, Maa Kali is the only goddess who ever showed the importance of motherly love hence she is worshiped as the mother of gods (as mahakali ) and the source (or symbol)of all mother hood (as trinetra kali or yogani devi)…
-It is a myth that mother Kali primary nature is rage, instead “Motherhood” is her primary nature not rage .
9.) KALI MAA IS WORSHIPED FOR BETTER MARRIED LIFE BY PEOPLE OF INDIA : –
“CAUSE OF THE WORSHIP” :- It is really strange that even most of the Indians also dont know much about this … but it is also true that Kali Maa is worshiped for a prosperous married life by most of the north- east people of India .. the most prominent example of this can be seen in Lucknow, Uttar pradesh , India. where their is a temple which is said to have been dated about 2000 years ago and is know as “Badi Kali Temple”
Badi kali Ji Temple – Where mother Kali is worshiped for better married Life. (Google map)
Photographic Resource :- Badi kali Ji Temple ( from Lucknow or Lakhanpur of Ancient India)
The History of this Temple is kind of jumbled one but the popular one is said to have established by Adi guru Shankaracharya Ji for about 2000 years ago in Lucknow (which was previously known as Lakhan Pur). This temple is really important for girls as they come here from all the way to seek blessing from Mother Kali for a Better Married Life and this temple is famous for this . Boys who seeks bright future also come to this holy place to ask blessing of Mother Kali for great prosperous future ..
It is also clearly visible in the hindu Marriage system where before a groom before going for marriage ceremony must take the blessing of maa kali .. and similarly a bride should worshipe maa kali before she come’s to her husband’s home.
Like the above temple their is as another one quite famous for the same reason the name of the temple is “Thirumandhamkunnu temple”. which is also remembered for the boon of better married life..
Digital Art Description :- Jai Kali Maa – The art showing that Maa Kali is worshiped by the Newly Married Couple for a Bright Blessed Future
10.) KALI MAA IS WORSHIPED AS “A PROTECTOR FROM “LORD YAMA”- THE GOD OF DEATH “ : –
“CAUSE OF THE WORSHIP” :-Normally it is seen and viewed mostly that most avatars of mother kali is been requested to end demons who did foul deed’s, who misused their powers .. but contradictory to this belief that she is the goddess of ending (well we have proved several points that she is the creator and the protector and along with this the great mother kali is much much more ) we place an another strong reason for her being worships which is “She protects us from the reaches of Lord Yama” .
Art Ref – Nirwan tantra ; Maa Kali the protector from Lord Yama
That’s why she is also called as “Dakshina Kali” .
“South” is the direction of Lord Yama as per “Vastu Shastra”
well their are multiple meaning’s of this name but one and most strongest is that lord yama cant touch you i.e. in logical meaning you wont die a sudden natural death, you remain protected by the grace of Maa Kali. actually “dakshin” means south and south as per “vastushastra” is the direction of yama who just gives you death and place your soul in the constant cycle of life and death .
If we worship Mother Kali Then we are free from this fear of Sudden death and this has been written in many of the mythological texts like “kali tantra , mahanirvaan tantra and kalika puran” (quoted as under)
Reference “Kalika puran and Maha Nirwan tantra” both stating the same thing Lord Yama Cannot touch the devotee of Kali Maa and if he did he dosent have the capacity to take them to narak.
A fear of Sudden death (or going to narak after completing our time here) is a most terrifying thing which exist is all our lives as we are not afraid for ourselves we are afraid for the people we love .. but tantra and puran says if you believe in Mother Kali & worship her this fear will be gone..
Photographic Ref :- 14th and current Prime Minister of India) , Sri Narendra Modi offer prayers to Dakshineswar Kali Maa.
The Dakshineswar Kali Temple from Kolkata has its own significance because of this very reason . Here Maa Kali Stands in the Dakshin or South Direction and she protects her true devotee from the reaches of Lord Yama.
11.) KALI MAA IS WORSHIPED AS A GREAT MOTHER BY HER DEVOTEES WHO FIGHT’S FROM EVIL SPIRITS, CURSES, BLACK MAGIC ENVOKED BY EVIL MAGIC AND CURSES :-
This reason is one of the most prominent of all reasons . Most of the time this is the reason why people come to the doors of mother Kali. Black magic and Curses exist as a part of negative resonance around us. They could be put on us by people having great “aura” . The concept of Aura has been believed by Hindus from time beyond recognition .. and when people with negative aura put a cloud of that around us it sucks our positive energy and this is called as a curse .. Sri Kali Amman Temple is an example of a place where people come to the doors of mother kali to protect them from the evil sprites .
“CAUSE OF THE WORSHIP” :– HERE IN TAMIL NADU MOTHER KALI IS THE FAMILYDEITY OF ALL MOST ALL PEOPLE OF ALL PLACE , AS SHE BURNS THE EFFECT OF BLACK MAGIC AND SPELLS APPLIED TO HER DEVOTEE’S. SHE IS SEEN FURIOUS BUT SHE GRANTS THE COURAGE TO HER DEVOTEE TO STAND THE ATTACK OF ENEMIES.
Photographic Ref :- Sri Bhadra kali Amman Temple Ganapathy nagar, 1st St, Meenakshi Nagar, Villapuram, Madurai, Tamil Nadu 625012
HERE IT IS COMMON TO SEE BILLIONAIRE PEOPLE INVOLVED IN COURT AFFAIRS OR LEGAL MATTERS OR MATTERS INVOLVING SUCCESS OF BUSINESS ARE ASKING HELP FROM MOTHER KALI .
HERE MOTHER BHADRAKALI WEARS A CROWN OF FIRE AND WIELDS A TRIDENT DOWNWARDS , MOTHER BHADRAKALI APPEARS AS A DEITY TO END ALL EVIL. THE TRIDENT DESTROYS EVIL AND THE FIRE CROWN BURNS ALL THE EVIL. HER STANDING POSTURE SHOWS HER MERCIFUL READINESS TO PROTECT HER DEVOTEES.
The Devotees submit their prayer in a piece of paper and tie them in the trident in the temple and their problems are solved by the mother goddess Maa Kali ..
12.) WORSHIPING MAA KALI MEANS WORSHIPING “POWER” ITSELF..
“CAUSE OF THE WORSHIP” :- From Endless times The Tantrik community exists, these are the people who worship Maa Kali as the Mother Goddess of Power .all their traditions exists only for a single reason i.e to get blessed power from Maa Kali..
Art Description :- Maa Kali the Goddess of where she is seen as the Source of All Power & Energy .
An example (probably the greatest example from India) of the temple which is famous for tantrik rituals devoted to Maa Kali were Maa Kali is seen defending Poor souls from evil spirits and Providing Tantrik Powers to the Tantra Seakers is the Temple known as “Pavagadh Mahakali temple” .
The temple is the site of one of the Great holy Shakti Peethas.
The greatness of maa kali is indeed incredible , she sees all and protects us all. she is a mother and a true protector and the goddess of Infinite Powers.
Photograph Resource :- Kalika Mata Temple, Pavagadh
Digital Art :- of “Parashakti_Mahakali_Maa , Who is The Mother and Source Goddess of All Energy of this Existence
The temple has three images of goddesses: the central image is of Kalika Mata, flanked by Kali Maa on the right and Bahucharamata (Bahuchara Mata is a Hindu goddess of chastity and fertility) on the left. here kali maa is worshiped as Dakshina Kali , and her statue facing dakshin marga (south direction) holds a considerable importance when considering tantrik and vedic practices and many innocent souls come her to take the blessing’s from maa kali and they ask her to save them from evil unseen elements. On Chitrasud 8, a fair is held at the temple which is attended by thousands of devotees.
Similar to the above temple The Guhyeshwari Temple (Nepali: गुह्येश्वरी मन्दिर), dedicated to Maa Guhya Kali is one of the revered holy temples pesently located in Kathmandu, Nepal. This temple is dedicated to Guhyeshwari or Adi Shakti. King Pratap Malla built this temple in the 17th century.
Photographic Resource :- Guhyeshwari Temple
Some people says that ,Guhyeshwari Temple marks the spot where Sati’s hips or hind part is said to have fallen . and other says that it is the spot where her interior genitals have fallen. (note:- as per this concept at Kamarupa-Kamakhya” in Assam the exterior of genitals have fallen) . we are not able to clear this statement .but the MAIN CAUSE OF THE WORSHIP HERE is that the Temple is famous for its tantrik practices like the Kamrupa-Kamakhya. Tantrik’s and Aghoris and Many Common People from all the way and time beyond calender have dedicated themselves to the service of Maa Kali , and worshiped her as their Mother who when pleased by their rituals, grant them spiritual power i.e, the power beyond mind and body.
PLEASE NOTE THAT :- THE TEMPLE IS ALSO FAMOUS FOR WOMENS TO WORSHIP THE GREAT MOTHER FOR THE BETTERMENT OF HEALTH OF THEIR HUSBANDS.

13.) KALI MAA IS WORSHIPED AS A GREAT MOTHER OF SALVATION : –
Digital Art :- Mata Shamshan Kali (Vama Kali) ; The Goddess of Salvation and Power
From time beyond the recorded history Mother Kali is seen as primarily worshiped as the great mother of salvation .. It is said in Hindu Mythology that it is only the mother Kali who can give salvation to a Soul of this word & thats why their is a “SHAMSHAN KALIKA TEMPLE ” Present near every Hindu Cremation ground (Shamshan ghat). These places sometimes gets famous for tantrik cult practices.
But we would like to share a story by “Barkha Kumari” of a 100 years old or so Temple of Sri Smashanakali Temple. located in Lakshmipuram/Ulsoor Burial Ground, Bangalore India .
“CAUSE OF THE WORSHIP” :- THE STORY CLEARLY TELLS US OF WHY PEOPLE WORSHIP MOTHER KALI HERE ? OR WHY THE PEOPLE COME AT THIS PLACE. THIS STORY GIVES US A GREAT UNDERSTANDING AND REASONS, OF WHY PEOPLE STILL WORSHIP MOTHER KALI.
Photograph Resource :- The Images of Sri Smashanakali Temple Lakshmipuram Burial Ground
Here their are four Female Priest who worship Mother Smashanakali , and this temple has become source of attraction for lot of Kali devotees from all over the state, as well as from Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
“Shailamma, Sarasamma, Bhavani-amma and Bhaiamma” (the name of the four female priests ) do everything – from offering pooja and warding off negative energies (drishti) to making good luck charms (taveez) and overseeing the ritual of animal sacrifice (they don’t perform the sacrifice itself, however)
In the report of Barkha Kumari 18 june 2017 for Bangalore Minor Bureau she stated that. This report under the title of “The Graveyard Shift”is really enlightening as it tells why the four female decided to worship mother Smashanakali in a burial ground . and what is the importance of Mother Kali have in their life . The story is kind of same for many of us .
The Family of “Mohan William”, has always run this temple for 100’s of years , but in 2010 a tragedy occurred to this family as Mohan William went to Kashi and never returned . So his wife “Tulasiamma” decided to take over his duties, while son Suresh and daughter Bhagya helped on the sidelines.
Today, all the 37-year-old Bhagya recalls is that her paternal grandparents used to serve the temple. So in the absence of her father, her mother had to step up for the temple service. “Nobody else was brave to work inside a cemetery, not even men,” Bhagya, said this laughing.
Digital Art :- Maa Kali – The Energy of All
Having both Tulasiamma and Bhagya at the helm of affairs led to an increase in the number of female devotees, who began started confiding in them, sharing their family and personal problems. The elderly in particular would spend a lot of free time at the temple – chatting, soaking in the peace and quiet of the premises, and often propitiating Kali for resolving their problems.
In 2012, Tulasiamma passed away, leaving behind big shoes to be filled. That’s when Bhagya took over the reins of the Sri Smashanakali Temple Trust, and started reaching out to a few women, asking them if they would like to serve the goddess at the temple. In no time, she had found the temple four more priestesses.
Barkha Kumari in her report further said that Bhagya told that the other priestesses she found they work there’s no salary, only pure devotion is all they are here for. Sometimes, Bhagya gives them money for their bus fare, travelling as they do from their homes in Baiyapanahalli and Kamanahalli, and Murphy Town.
Digital painting :- of Maa Kali the Mother of all Creation.
her first recruit “Sarasamma”, who has three children and three grandchildren, was the first to join. She has known this temple and this family for 26 years now. In 1995, she came to the temple looking for an answer to her husband’s drinking problem, which was causing him to urinate blood.Bhagya recollects, “She came here looking for help. We made a juice mix for her husband, and in a week’s time, he had recovered. That day she decided to dedicate her life to Kali.” Sarasamma has been serving the temple ever since.
Next came 78-year-old Bhaiamma, the granny of the bunch who has been away from work due to low BP for some time. “She doesn’t have many people to take care of her at home, so she likes coming here.”
Next, Bhagya called up her distant relative, Bhavaniamma, who was familiar with the premises, as her husband is buried here.
Shailamma (age 45) came on board after looking to Kali for answers to her troubled family life. Today, her devotion has borne fruit – or so she believes, unwrapping the orange cloth on her head.
The temple depicts not one, but five forms of Kali Maa– Mashanakali, Rudrakali, Nagamma, Dakshinakali and Angalaparameshwari
in five different sections, and is never short of visitors. Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays are considered extra auspicious for Kali worship here, and see more footfalls. And come Amavasya (no moon days), or Shivaratri, you won’t find a place to stand in the compound, Barkha Kumari (this reporter) was shown a video as proof.
Bhagya tells us. Today, Bhagya’s brother, Suresh ( age 35) continues his priest duties, while his wife Vidya also doubles up as a priest sometimes.
The ammas maintain their calm through the build-up of crowd, emotions, and expectations. “We meditate and try to keep ourselves peaceful. Only when we are at peace can we help others,” Bhavaniamma says.
The priestesses told the reporter that-” Mother Kali has helped many people who came their often in dire circumstances.” “Once a couple came to me to pray for their five-year-old son who had fallen from the second floor of a building, and was admitted in the ICU. The priestesses asked them to do the bali (sacrifice) of a hen, and gave them a lime to take back home. The kid was out of the hospital in a week. In another case, a couple had been trying to have a baby for seven years, but could not. The priestesses did a pooja for them, and in three months, the woman was pregnant. Today, the kid is five years old, and comes to visit the temple.”
All around the temple premises, you will spot ‘mannat’ locks, clothes, stones and bangles tied to trees, put there by devotees looking for prosperity, babies, relationships, approval of home and car loans, good results in exams and elections, better health, and, yes, to pray for the soul of the departed.
It’s certainly been a long journey from the time Bhagya’s Tamilian grandfather Ramaswamy and his Anglo-Indian wife Queenie chanced upon a stone statue of Kali inside this cemetery, and decided to turn it into a full-fledged temple. Bhagya takes pride in the temple’s significance. “As per Hindu practice, one is supposed to take a bath after burning or burying the dead. But here people bury the dead, come to the temple, look at the jyoti (a small lamp) lit in front of the Kali, and are good to go about their lives. The darshan of the jyoti makes them pure.”

“CONCEPT OF SALVATION IN HINDUS”
Hinduism is the oldest of all the living religions. It has neither any definite date of its origin nor has it any definite founder associated with it. It is majorly called as “Santana dharma”, meaning- a religion coming down to people through eternity. It is thus a unique religion in one very important sense. Nearly every religion of the world is associated with a definite personality claimed to be its first originator or founder and has a definite text which is regarded as its basic religious text. But Hinduism has none. It can more be regarded as spontaneous growth assisted at various stages of civilization from various sides rather than a creation or construction of somebody.
Even Sir Charles Eliot remarks in this connection, “Hinduism has not been made, but has grown. It is a jungle, not a building.”
In Here the concept of salvation is viewed by so many ways and their are different ways be obtained it … Salvation, for the Hindu, can be achieved in one of three ways: (ref – HINDUISM AND CONCEPT OF SALVATION {With special reference to The Bhagavad Gita} research paper by “Tahira Basharat” submitted to Punjab university )
– the way of works – karma marga, is the path to salvation through religious duty
– the way of knowledge – another way of achieving salvation in the Hindu sense is the way of knowledge.
– the way of devotion – bhakti, is chronologically the last of the three ways of salvation
In Hinduism, salvation is the Atmans’ (individual’s soul), liberation from Samsara, the cycle of death and rebirth and attainment of the highest spiritual state. It is the ultimate goal of Hinduism, where even hell and heaven are temporary. This is called moksha (Sanskrit: “liberation”) or mukti (Sanskrit: “release”). Moksha is a final release from one’s worldly conception of self.”
Taittiriya Upanishadstates, “He who knows the Bliss of Brahman (divine consciousness) does not distress himself with the thought “why did I not do what is good? Why did I do what is evil?” Whoever knows this (bliss) regards both of these as Atman (self, soul), indeed he cherishes both as Atman. Such, indeed, is the Upanishad, the secret knowledge of Brahman.”
After analyzing the references above, the concept of salvation could be easily summarized that Salvation in Hinduism is called Moksha and Moksha is attained when an enlightened human being is freed from the endless cycle of death and reincarnation and comes into a state of completeness; completeness of being one with Brahman . and it is said by references like Kalika puran , Yogani tantra and durga shapshati that all the whole cycle of creation and destruction , life and death, and all emotional and worldly attachments are a form of “Maya” created by the great illusionist mother MahaKali .. so no other can clear this earthly illusions accept of mother Kali as she is the one who has created it … MY MOTHER KALI IS THE ULTIMATE BRAHMAN .
Reference from Yogani Tantra and Kalika tantra stating that “Mother Kali is the Soul , The Ataman or The Brahaman or The Param-Brahma”
But we know people will argue on this concept and will question as per their belief . It is fine by that standard , we are here to make understand a concept which is a part of understanding about mother kali and the way she is seen , respected and worshiped for. But for Hindus one point of argue could be that the references are from tantrik text . and most of us thinks tantra as a method of magic . well we will prove the scientific origination and basis of tantra but for now we give an example where a demon asks for salvation. AND IT IS A VEDIC REFERENCE. (This is also connected to the story of why lord shiva is present below the feet of Kali maa)
We know this demon by the name of “Mahishasur” and really very few people knows about that this demons to get salvation prayed mother Kali so that he can attain salvation. The text reference below is found from “Kalika Puran” where the demon Mahishasur asked mother Kali the boon of salvation , he asked that now after his current birth, he seeks no more rebirth , he is satisfied and now wants salvation .
Digital Art of :- MAHISHASUR (THE DEMON) WAS BLESSED BY MAA BHADRA KALI AND THE ASKED FOR SALVATION ,KNOWING NO OTHER COULD GIVE HIM THE GIFT OF SPIRITUAL SALVATION (REF – KALIKA PURAN) (English and Sanskrit Edition)
(the text encoded in the above digital art is taken from kalika puran and described as follows 🙂
